Listen & Be Heard has relocated from Greenville, SC to Harlem, New York. It is now a project of Sound System Culture Inc. We currently produce two podcast/syndicated radio shows. The Listen & Be Heard Hour is weekly and Beyond Borders is bi-weekly. The Listen & Be Heard website hosts the show archives, and publishes poetry, stories, reviews, columns and videos contributed from around the globe.
Our History
Listen & Be Heard began an improvisational poetry open mic in the East Village of New York City in the early 1990’s. The event moved with founder, Martha Cinader, to Vallejo, CA in the early 2000’s, where it grew into a weekly print and web publication, and a poetry cafe. After raising her children in Greenville, SC, Martha reinvented her approach in 2022, with The Listen & Be Heard Hour a weekly radio show/podcast. Now located in Harlem, New York, we hard at work on production of Season 4 of The Listen & Be Heard Hour, and Season 2 of Beyond Borders.

She enjoys gardening and documents some of her experiences in the column, Martha’s Kitchen Garden. She has a particular interest in fiction and poetry, dreams, and environmental understanding.
