Afternoon energy dip? Get Bombed!

When I was a newspaper editor, I used to LOVE a cup of coffee or pastry around two or three in the afternoon when my energy began to flag after my high-carb lunch. My 3pm sugar habit persisted years beyond my employment at the paper.

As a massage therapist, my office was right next to a candy store that I frequented in the afternoon. I used to joke with the lady behind the counter that when my office was quiet, I could hear her chocolates calling my name.

Now that I’m an energy coach and eating coach, I understand that coffee and sugar actually deplete our energy, even if they give us a little pick-me-up temporarily when we’re feeling sluggish. Caffeine and sugar also have other undesirable health effects like spiking blood glucose, causing cravings, and gaining weight.

I don’t get that DEEP dip in my energy at 3pm anymore, as long as I stay away from processed foods, but I do still get noshy and enjoy a delicious satisfying treat around that time. So what’s my favorite afternoon snack?

Fat Bombs!

Fat bombs are a delicious way to get some essential fats. (Essential means that we need them to live.) You can Google fat bomb recipes and find a variety of flavors like chocolate mint, lemon coconut, mojito, and pumpkin pie.

Since I adore chocolate, the first ones I made were chocolate, and life changing. I did not expect so much pleasure and satisfaction from an unsweetened treat! Then I discovered a recipe for salted peanut fat bombs.

It occurred to me instantly that I could combine the two recipes to resemble my favorite flavor profile of cheaply-made, ultra-processed candy. Voila!

Skip the sugar crash this afternoon, and get Bombed instead!

Wishing you energized thriving!
