Planting Okra Starters in a No-Dig Garden

I have been gardening without tilling or digging for about three years now. I do dig, to plant starters, but I haven’t turned over any of my garden beds for awhile now. This morning, I planted all the okra starters that I had growing in the former shallow end of the pool. I put them in the spot where I grew tomatoes last year. It was covered with comfrey and weeds. I cut back the comfrey (which will come right back) and used the leaves as mulch for a border below the okra. The weeds that came up through the mulch I left in the fall, were so to pull it was ridiculous, and below them, gorgeous black dirt. I am hopeful for a good okra crop. I can already taste it fresh from the frying pan, which is how we like it around here. If we are so blessed, I will save some of the seeds this time. I saved watermelon and sunflower seeds, and other stuff last year, and after making this video, I put those starters in the ground all around the chicken runs, but it was too hot and I was too tired to make a video of that. But after awhile everything I grow will be like heirlooms, if I can stay organized enough to collect seeds at the right time for each plant…
