Phys Fest NYC

PhysFestNYC debuted in January 2024 through a grassroots crowdfunding campaign with support from the Stella Adler Center for the Arts in Downtown Manhattan. The festival focuses on physical theater — performance styles that center the body, including dance theater, clown, mime, and other experimental or genre-blending forms. PhysFestNYC is a community-focused annual festival that brings together artists, audiences, and newcomers through performances, workshops, and events to celebrate and expand the field. In 2024, it hosted 7 events per day over 10 days and featured 143 artists. It is the first festival of its kind in NYC and one of only two in the U.S. The festival aims to support physical theater artists, who are often under-resourced, by creating opportunities for collaboration, shared resources, and greater visibility for their work.
