Jon Storm is a Professor of Biology at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He is lead author of the Field Guide to the Southern Piedmont, a free eBook covering more than 700 species of animals, plants, fungi, slime molds and more in the Piedmont of the Carolinas and Georgia. He and his co-authors won the William F. Palmer Award from the South Carolina Science Council for this eBook and the associated Southern Piedmont Wildlife Coloring Book. Jon also manages the Southern Piedmont Natural History page on Facebook, where he writes about things you might find in nature at that time of year. His educational outreach to the public led to him being awarded the 2023 Governor’s Award for Scientific Awareness from Governor Henry McMaster. Jon’s research interests include small mammal ecology and animal behavior and have been featured on the Discovery Channel Canada, National Public Radio, and in The New York Times.
