Red Tail Hawks

by

Red Tail Hawk

We have had hawks in residence since we moved here almost seven years ago now. They nest in the tops of the trees, and we’ve seen their white hooded babies occasionally over the years. They are very loud, and call to each other all summer long while hunting and going back and forth to their nest. They catch fish from the ponds, and frogs, and also dive for rabbits and squirrels and mice. They seem to be in a constant territorial battle with the crows. The crows gang up on a hawk and try to chase it away when they are around, but the hawks rule around here. I’m guessing that these two are a couple.

These pictures were taken at the same time, but the hawks were too far away from me and each other, to get them both up close in the same shot.
