Poetry for Today

martha cinader

today, like every day
it’s time for a new poem
at listen & be heard poetry cafe
a poem for the poem of the day
poetry that speaks to you
about where you come from
where you yearn to go
growing pains of the heart

poetry for today is everywhere
each moment a tender reminder
of all that is beautiful
all that is absurd and atrocious
today bullets fly
babies cry
old people die
love is spoken of
birds fly too and sing
people speak truth and lies
the whys and hows and whos
while species fade away
remembered in poetry and dreams
all of it is all that it seems
