Patience was the missing ingredient my friends. I spent more time on foreplay, allowing the pot to heat up gently. I eased it back down too, once the weights got to gently rocking and rolling, and then when the ingredients were at the perfect moment, I waited for the weights to completely stop moving before removing the pot from my glass stove top.

Canning Anxieties Revealed

Yesterday was my day to can carrots, which I did, but I had some troubles that weren't entirely unexpected, and then learned, from people who know better than me, that I shouldn't even be using my new (sort of) electric canner. This is proof that after more than a decade of all this homesteading stuff, I still make mistakes like a gullible virgin! Let me explain.

Immersion Blending Bliss

So now, well now, you could say I have a creamed soup fetish. Old vegetables, onions or garlic from the fridge, leftover mashed potatoes, something else to do with all that frozen zucchini, I cook them in some chicken stock or smoked turkey stock.

I have never used my wooden rolling pin since acquiring this marble one. I'm not making anything fancy, or fancier because I have it, but it works very well for the bread, pizza dough and occasional cinnamon rolls, that I make regularly or occasionally. I've found the pastry shaper to be a nice acquisition too. I think I found it in a bucket at the Salvation Army as well.

I’ll Show You Mine

The one in the middle, I am guessing, is for squeezing lemons? The third one, well maybe it's for opening something, or maybe lifting a hot lid? I don't know, but if you do, please share your knowledge. So that's a few of mine. Now show me yours!

Waffle Iron

One of my best finds was my electric waffle iron. It has two removable cast iron plates, which makes it easy to clean. As long as I keep them well-seasoned I don't have any problems with sticking.
