There was a reception for “The
Art of Living Black” satellite exhibtion at the Fetterly
Gallery on Saturday, Jan 20, 2007. According to Celeste
Smeland, Executive Director of Vallejo Community Arts
Foundation which houses the Fetterly Gallery, “there was
about 120 people at the opening reception. The reception
was hosted by Material Visions, music (flute and
keyboard) by Donna Plummer and James
Dotts.”
Jeneatte and Cleven Goudeay were the
curators for this year’s exhibition. According to
Jeneatte “it was an exciting challenge to select a show
from such a wealth of talent among our Bay Area
African-American artists. In our culture we believe
“It Takes A Village” so, bringing together
emerging, mid-career and established artists, presenting an
array of styles in many mediums, is TAOLB way of having an
exciting, fresh, strong black experience through fine art.
The theme “It Take A
Village” implies unity, people caring and sharing, to:
raise a child, grow a crop, build a business. We have applied
the same principle to this project, and have brought together a
diversity of “Talent” fabric, texture and color to
this exhibit.
The exhibition continues through March
24, 2007.
