6th Street Playhouse production of The Grapes of Wrath Photo by Eric Chazankin.
Packed with poignant moments, the 6th Street Playhouse production of The Grapes of Wrath, adapted by Frank Galati from Steinbeck’s historically detailed novel, embedded a long lasting visual impression. There were scenes/monologues when one could hear a pin drop. The [...]

EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED
September 12th, 2007 charles frederickson · No Comments
Silenced songs hit wrong notes
Rhythmic deep throat breathy sighs
Pressing both sides of collapsed
Rib cage lovebirds take flight
Tangled thoughts become unread books
Glossy jacket cover collecting dust
Spineless screwy twists plotting revenge
Happy endings not my specialty
Primed blank canvas awaiting inspiration
Scraped palette knife undertaking gesso
Faceless portrait imagining dreamscape revisited
Tottery easel brushed with unlife
Tethered stray chomping on leash
Soft belly craving [...]

The 12th Annual Petaluma Poetry Walk is scheduled this Sunday, September 23rd. As always, it starts at noon, though this year, the first venue will be Jungle Vibes, 136 Petaluma Boulevard North (next door to where it has traditionally started, for those of you who have attended before.) Rough Boys
September 12th, 2007 richard_spann · No Comments
This remake (originally released in 1957) stars Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. Gritty and raw, the performances were electrifying. Bale plays a hard luck rancher who volunteers to escort gun slinging outlaw Ben Wade (played by Crowe) to Contention and place him in the hands of the authorities on the 3:10 prison train to Yuma. [...]

21st Century Woes

I want a Starbucks on each corner,
a WalMart on each block,
if I can’t have everything I want,
then my heart will go into hock…
I don’t want some bright guy for a president,
I want an oil mogul for each head of state.
If I can’t have everything I want,
then I’ll simply buy a bigger plate…
I can hardly [...]

Maintenance Man at a Local Motel
September 10th, 2007 peter bray · No Comments
I’m the Maintenance Man
at a local motel
and my new duties here
are going swell.
I fixed the manager’s
broken waterheater door,
and fixed the ceiling fan
in No. 4.
I fixed the back door
in No. 2,
there’s a lot of things
that I could do for you
if you were the manager
at this local motel.
If my college professors
could only see me now,
they’d probably lust [...]

Heretical Believer

1.
My religion is kindhearted compassion
Taking pride in enabling others
Fiercely independent loner craving soul
Mates making a difference together
Pragmatic realism whatever works best
Discovery learning derring-do gut instincts
Nothing is impossible wandering dybbuk
Surpassing expectations imposed outer limits
2.
Daring to dare take risks
Afraid of nothing save self-deceit
Restless nomad exploring uncharted vistas
Challenging out of bounds taboos
Mercurial above see level visionary
Winged feet firmly [...]

The White Spider and the Mob
September 5th, 2007 martha mims · No Comments
When in a dark
warm and cozy
cave it’s easy
to feel secure and
powerful.
But when blinking
in the hot sun
exposed to a mob
of feet which might
be moved by the
mere mention of
POETRY
to bruise a skinny leg
or even squash
life out of her,
then she retreats
to the cave in her
heart where courage
beats a rhythm
to speak truth by.

in process
growing old and fat
62 and 6 foot 2
some special symmetry
this numerology
stretching out
this frame of me
blending edges concealing
adipose poundage
(Young girls die
for breasts like mine)
While some men eat to live,
I live to eat.
IÄôve tired
of too much exercise.
IÄôm bored with dieting.
IÄôm 62-years-old
for GodÄôs sake!
HavenÄôt I earned the right
to enjoy myself?
Yes, IÄôll die
better for having loved eating

What You Touch Grows
August 27th, 2007 martha mims · No Comments
What you touch grows.
You knows
how to get to that part
of me, the heart
of the matter
served on a platter
of sweet treats
dark succulent meat
full of nutrition.
You keeps me on a mission
to keep the feast coming
and coming and coming,
taste the juicy fruits
engage in your pursuit
of my special pleasure,
my hidden treasure,
a bud that only blossoms
when you reach for the [...]
