Conceived and directed by George Charbak for the TheatreInSearch company of players, this witty and fascinating play has a limited run at the Ashby Stage in Berkeley (through September 2). I recommend it highly. While the epic of “Gilgamesh” was written in cuneiform on 12 clay tablets about 4,000 years ago, it was discovered and [...]

Based on the novel of the same name by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, The Last Legion is in the same vein as The Da Vinci Code. Starring ultra-hot Indian actress Aishwarya Rai and Colin Firth, The Last Legion is set in the fifth century, near the end of the Roman Empire. The barbarian tribes allied with [...]

Whether it’s a small event or a big one, the entertainment we produce is always live, always intimate, always personal, always raw. Last Friday, for the open mic, we featured Nikki Skies, and of course all of the poets who signed the open mic list. The First Annual Listen & Be Heard Marin Street Summer [...]

At first consideration, the partnering of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker seemed way too odd to ever succeed. It turned out to be a brilliant pairing, with Rush Hour 2 emerging as the highest grossing film during the summer of its release. Set mainly in Paris, Rush Hour 3 continues the adventures of detectives Carter [...]

A New Tradition on Marin Street

I was not able to experience the big picture of the First Annual Listen & Be Heard Marin Street Summer Arts Festival on Saturday August 18, 2007, because I was quite busy most of the day and night inside Listen & Be Heard Poetry Café. But it was very satisfying to look up and down [...]

I would like to welcome you to another week of self discovery and universal understanding. You start your forecast week of major transits on Thursday, when Mars, the planet of ego energy and personal drive, at 10º Gemini will be opposite Jupiter, the planet of personal expansion and growth, at 10º Sagittarius. The energy expressed [...]

Painting with Johnny Cash/Art Himsl/And a Chilean Sea Bass…

I powerwashed the house, chipped the old paint blisters from the previous contractor?Äôs screwup, consulted with Kelly-Moore, primed all the suspicious spots with an oil-based primer, and then began the finish coat. Three days later I was across the front of the house. Johnny Cash sang on a CD, ?Äú…get rhythm, when you get the [...]

and she… she could be the greatest achievement of my life. the exception to human frailities and shortcomings. looking to the sky not to see the sun, but to be greater than its radiance. it was her challenge. she became the blanketed earthquake that so many memories have forgotten. slipping through the fragmented creaks in [...]

Last Orders

Buckled down high school, studious college,
always the nerd they could count on.
He’d lend a hand to help understand,
though his own work might be a mountain
Finally the day he received the decree
that accounted him certified;
and after the boards he’s public, as well,
and can help others count out their lives
He always liked numbers, they’re simply so simple:
if they don’t add it’s someone’s mistake.
The numbers themselves can never lie,
lines of green on a sand-colored page
Bound by the rules of general ledger,
regimented, this life he chose.

Here in Vallejo, California we have a [tag]public access[/tag] cable television channel. It is still just running community bulletin board announcements. Listen & Be Heard Poetry Caf? has been fortunate to have listings of our free community events included on that bulletin board, and we thank the VCAT volunteers who created them for including us.
