Poets, Poetry, Plurality, Purpose

not every poet

who came to the cafe

got to sign the list

because it filled up quick.

Everyone wanted to be

heard and spread their word.

Those who weren’t impatient

got to share anyway

in the third round,

when pretty much anything goes.

There were young poets

in high school,

and older poets from the

school of Life

Listen & Be Heard Virgins

were broken in with

warmth and tenderness.

We even had a poet

all the way from Texas

step up to the stage

and read from his page

of experience and vision.

Our features Ryler and Denise

came all the way from Seattle

to spread their special vibe

both separately and together.

The purpose was the poem.

It was a night of the word

when poets were heard

poetry was alive

plurality was part of the message

that will never happen

quite the same way again.
