ETCHED TWILIGHT

September 17th, 2007 by charles frederickson · No Comments

Dug up family secrets buried
    Pounding rusty bent nails into
       Coffin hollow rattle echoing inside
          Mottled shadows slipping through cracks

          Moth balls stuck in corners
       Hope chest heirlooms emptied out
    Imitation crystal secondhand promises shattered
Petrified cut-glass splinters last remains

Mummified cat interred alongside master
    Stench reeking of embalming fluid
       Gauze loose ends coming unraveled
          Dead end sarcophagus sealed uptight

          Legacy of guilt passed on
       Confessed sins fading mauve sunset
    Memory tattoos engraved double-faced tombstone
Blank slate taken for granite
