Faded Empire

The Last LegionBased on the novel of the same name by Valerio Massimo Manfredi, The Last Legion is in the same vein as The Da Vinci Code. Starring ultra-hot Indian actress Aishwarya Rai and Colin Firth, The Last Legion is set in the fifth century, near the end of the Roman Empire. The barbarian tribes allied with Rome have begun to turn against their partner. In a bold strike led by the Gaul Odoacer, the barbarian forces invade the capitol, forcing the child emperor Romulus Augustus to flee. Recognized as the last Caesar of Rome, little is known about the fate of Romulus beyond the period of his imprisonment on the Italian island of Capri. In the film, however, historical events are re-imagined to create a tale of rite of passage, leading to the discovery of the famous sword Excalibur and the source of the fabled reign of Arthur. Not as graphic as releases like BloodRayne or 300, the blood-letting nature of sword and axe engagements was toned down, in deference to the story line. The cast included Ben Kingsley as a mystic warrior and an amazing performance from child actor Thomas Sangster.
