The background of The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard is notable. The idea was launched by Lee Cantelon. He wrote a book called The Words, a distillation of Christian Gospel. Next, Marc Chiat started a project to set The Words to music. He approached performers from the rock and alternative genres to participate in The Words Music Project.¬?

Rickie Lee Jones was one of the musicians asked to assist. After contributing to Chiat?Äôs recordings, Ms. Jones was inspired to record The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard.¬?
