I?Äôm dating myself by discussing Duke by Genesis. Originally released in 1980, Duke marked a shift in the Genesis sound scheme, followed by commercially successful releases like Abacab, Genesis, and The Invisible Touch. In a way, Duke was a break out album for Phil Collins as the disc included his first solo songwriting efforts as a Genesis member, leading to his initial solo disc Face Value.
The re-release of Duke has been re-mastered again (an earlier re-mix was released in 1997) for the twenty first century. The new release brings out sounds that were more subtle on the original disc. For Genesis, Duke was the front end to their very successful run during the 1980?Äôs and perhaps part of the reasoning for re-issuing makeovers.
Though Genesis has not released an album as a band since 1997?Äôs Calling All Stations, like other major acts from the 80?Äôs they are currently on a reunion tour. The Turn It on Again tour includes stops in LA, Sacramento and San Jose.
