Vallejo gets a bad rap when it comes to our youth. We hear plenty about the trouble some of them get in. What we don’t hear about are the young folks who have something intelligent to say, and have given a lot of thought about how to say it. Part of the reason for that is that our youth don’t get many opportunities to be heard. Here at Listen & Be Heard we listen attentively, and are never disappointed. Simone is a perfect example of everything this town has to boast about. She is young, beautiful, highly intelligent, creative, articulate and appearing this Friday to share with you what she has been working on lately. She will be the featured poet during the open mic on Friday night. Sit up, better yet, get up, turn off your television, walk out your door and come to take notes on the future. Here is what Simone has to say about herself:

Simone

Sixteen year-old Simone is a junior (11th grade) at Hogan High School in Vallejo. Her talents include writing as well as singing, both of which she has been doing from a very young age. Simone’s inspiration comes mostly from her family, her religion, and life experiences. Then I went up and read a poem and I guess the rest is history. (I’ve always wanted to say that) I currently attend Benicia High School and am 16 years of age.
