Jennifer Sweeney’s Salt Memory…reviewed by JoSelle Vanderhooft
Class by Jennifer Kochanek Sweeney
Winner of the 2005 MSR Poetry Book Award
Interspersed with references to Jennifer were listing for her poet husband Chad Sweeney. The last time Jennifer came to Listen & Be Heard Poetry Café it was to accompany Chad who was our feature back in September of 2006. She participated in the open mic portion. According to Chad, wherever one is the other is sure to follow, so perhaps we can look forward to Chad participating in the open mic this Friday, March 2, when we will feature Jennifer. Jennifer speaks with quiet intensity, a word engineer who commands your attention and your heart. She will have her book available for purchase, and I’m sure she would be happy to sign it for you too. Following is what Jennifer has to say about herself.
Jennifer K. Sweeney won the 2006 Main Street Rag Poetry Book Award and her book, Salt Memory, was just released. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College. Her poetry has been published or is forthcoming in various publications, including Haydenπs Ferry Review, Passages North, New York Quarterly, Evansville Review, RUNES, and subtropics. She was a finalist in the 2004 Center for Book Arts Chapbook Competition and the 2005 Brittingham/Felix Pollak Prize and was recently awarded a Cultural Equities Grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission.
