Dear Poet Friend
Tuesday, 6 Feb, twenty-one folks showed up for poetry at the Benicia Public Library.
We had a grand time on a drizzly evening and (first time) ate all the cookies! Thank heavens, I was getting up to my knees in oatmeal cookies at home.
I look forward to seeing you at our gathering in the Benicia Public Library on 6 March - please, its the ONLY way I can maintain a cookie balance.
Warm regards
Joel

We wanted to thank you UpSurge fans who came out on a cold and rainy night in Berkeley last Saturday at the Freight and Salvage. We had a fabulous time seeing you, playing for you and ‘calling’ to your response.
What a pleasure seeing friends and fans from as far away as Portland and Philadelphia; we even had students visiting from Toronto and Turkey coming backstage! We’re dreaming big and looking forward to doing festivals in the students’ hometowns, bringing our Oaktown sound, JUST LIKE THAT!
One highlight was the new material we performed. We had a swinging blast with the “Basie” poem (shout out to Wynton Marsalis for his great poem. Check out his book, Jazz ABZ . We all dug in on “2020″ which takes a sober look at the homicides claiming the lives of so many of our young men across the country. Then there was our inspired approach to “Tribute to the Trees” which lifted all of us into the canopy–so the rain was a blessing after all.
Advance news…HOLD THE DATE! A sneak preview announcement of our newest collective venture, The Bay Area JazzPoetry Festival.
Respectfully,
UpSurge!
