A Bi-Weekly Open Mic in Oaktown

February 14th, 2007 by martha mims · 1 Comment

On Tuesday February 6, my husband Tony and I were invited to be the featured poets at Poetry Diversified, an open mic poetry event that takes place at World Ground in Oakland on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Hosted by Tres Santos, a poetry performance group (who have been featured at Listen & Be Heard Poetry Caf) made up of Muteado, Mark G and Chokwadi. A free event, the set they perform before opening up the mic is well worth stepping out for. Featuring a wide selection of sandwiches and coffee, you can nosh and listen at the same time. Attending were listeners and both poets and singer/songwriters anxious to share their work with an attentive audience. This is a nice encouraging spot to share your creative efforts. It is simply an open mic with no rules and no competition. If youre looking for a socially conscious message, or to spread one yourself in Oakland, World Ground is the place to be twice a month on Tuesday nights. On February 20, 2007 Poetry Diversified will feature Da Boogie Man.

POETRY & MUSIC DIVERSIFIED 1st & 3rd Tuesdays 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. (sign-up list usually full by 8pm) at World Ground Caf 3726 MacArthur Blvd Oakland, CA 510-482-2933 www.worldgrounds.com Piano & microphone available. Wheelchair accessible! No cover, butdonations are accepted.
