After the devastation of Katrina, Listen & Be Heard adopted and elderly lady named Pearl Dudenhefer, who lost her home after the storm. We had a poetry marathon at the time and donated all the money we raised directly to her. We also spoke about producing a Katrina Chapbook of Poetry for the same purpose. Unfortunately, all the poetry we collected was lost on the computer of someone who had volunteered to the edit the book. We learned this after waiting for awhile for the results….
At this juncture, we are not able to collect all the poetry again, and have decided to send the cash we raised to produce the book, directly to Pearl, or Pep as her family affectionately calls her. We hope that this will contribute to some holiday cheer, and are glad that she seems to be well on the road to recovering from the storm with the help of her family and friends.
Following is the last correspondence we received from her this gracious lady.
