Speak Out – Dec. 6-12, 2006

December 6th, 2006 by Listen & Be Heard · No Comments

Hello Everyone-

The food giveaway on Thanksgiving day, although quite successful – we gave away 102 sack lunches!!, was emotionally tough for me over the course of the next few hours. Having dinner with my family that night I couldn’t help thinking about the faces and living situations I saw that afternoon. Here I was in the warmth and love, too much to eat and a comfortable place to sleep while they were still going to be where they were. I’m really grateful that I’ve been able to do this thing just about every month since last Christmas, but on this night I was particularly overcome with the importance of physical warmth. Kevin, his niece Usha, (who’s 15 years old and quite courageous to assist us) Ha and myself drove around SF looking for hungry people. Every time we got out of the car, bags of sack lunches in tow, walking under the overpasses, through Golden Gate park and down alleyways by the Civic Center, one couldn’t help notice the temperature. It was cold and it ain’t gonna get any warmer in the coming months.

SO-

What I’d like to do for the Christmas giveaway is include gloves and hats with the sack lunches first off, and secondly have ALL of you donate double what you’ve been sending! If you give $5 – give $10…if you give $50 yeah, give $100. This is like the greatest secret gift in your heart that’ll warm you up from the inside out. Better yet go out and buy these people some coats or dig back in your closets and find that down comforter or blanket that you haven’t used in years and send it to me. And even better still, take that stuff and find someone who needs it and personally hand it to them wishing them a Season’s Greetings!
If you’re uncomfortable with doing that, take some time to think about why.

Whatever you decide to do for someone less fortunate than yourself, we will be doing the food giveaway again. Send us money and warm stuff.

Have great holidays and thanks to all of you who have donated time and money this past year-

Somewhat disturbing…not the performance mind you, but the fact that they have award ceremonies for mimes over there.
