Vallejo Music Theatre Holds Fundraising Art Auction

November 22nd, 2006 by martha mims · No Comments

According to Judith Brown, Executive Director of Vallejo Music Theatre, the Hard Hat Auction fundraising event that took place on Friday, November 17 was a success. “It was a small crowd but it went well. The bidding got animated at the end.” Paintings, sculptures, photographs and more were donated by mostly local artists to help the Vallejo Music Theatre with their efforts to realize a performing arts center in their newly acquired historic building at 823 Marin Street in Vallejo.

Forty-four people attended the Vallejo Music Theatre auction. The art that caused the most heated bidding was by Rick Mariani, Joyce Scharf and Carrie Rose Devitt, the granddaughter of Judith Brown. Also sold was a photograph of the late Carl Porkpie Ontis, by Listen & Be Heard staff photographer S.N. Jacobson. The highest bid, topping $400, was for The Tin Men, pictured above, a limited edition lithograph by Gene Francis. The evenings activities ended with half of the donations getting sold. Vallejo Music Theatre grossed about $4,500 and probably netted about 75% of that said Judith Brown, who was very happy to hold our event in our own building for the first time.

The remaining art is still available for immediate sale at a buy it now price. You may also fill out a bid form for their next auction in February. For more information about the auction or the Messiah Sing-Along at the First Presbyterian Church on December 3rd, you can call Vallejo Music Theatre at 707-649-2787 or visit their website at vallejomusictheatre.org.
