Listen & Be Heard Poetry Caf? in Vallejo and the Native American Center in San Francisco have a mini-series within a series going on.
Every Friday night there is Open Mic at the Caf?. If you arrive promptly at 8pm, you?ll catch a set with Martha & Tony accompanied by Tony Rodriguez (of the Talons) on percussion. Halfway through the second round of open mic there is always a special feature. About every six weeks, Kim Shuck, at the Native American Center, sends us a Listen & Be Heard virgin, someone she recommends who has never been on our stage before. On Friday, September 29, that person will be Chad Sweeney. Chad Sweeney is the co-editor of Parthenon West Review and teacher in the San Francisco WritersCorps. His recent poems appear in Slope, Verse, New American Writing, Pool, Black Warrior, Runes, 5FR, Ping Pong, the tiny, Poetry Flash, Tarpaulin Sky and elsewhere. He’s published three chapbooks and his full-length manuscripts have been finalists in the National Poetry Series, Colorado Prize, Del Sol Press Prize and other contests. He has an MFA in poetry from San Francisco State University and lives with his wife, poet Jennifer K. Sweeney, in San Francisco.

I have been very inspired by chad sweeney not only through his work as a poet and a writer but also through his role as a teacher. I was very fortunate to have been one of his students at DCS, and I can honestly say that his teaching style has truly influenced my life as a writer and over all as a person.
