The last couple of times [tag]Marc Pinate[/tag] appeared at Listen & Be Heard Poetry Caf?, 818 Marin Street, Downtown Vallejo, was with his group Grito Serpentino, (he also recorded two CD?s with the group) back when we first opened, and even before that at Rafael?s. That was before we opened the caf?.
This time he will head this way on his own to feature during the Open Mic on Friday Sept. 15. Obviously we like to hear from him and believe that you will too. We?re not the only ones. He is a national slam champion and has performed his spoken word, theatre and music in such notable venues as New York?s Lincoln Center and the Nuyorican Poets Caf?, Su Teatro in Denver, Borderlands Theatre in Tucson, San Francisco?s Galeria de la Raza and universities, schools, festivals and cultural centers throughout the country. His published work includes two chapbooks of poetry and inclusions in Zyzzyva, The Santa Clara Review, Calaca Review, Street Low Magazine, and Razateca. When he is not performing he ponders the meaning of life and when he is not doing that, he teaches beginning acting at San Jose State University and is an artist-in-residence at La Pe?a Cultural Center in Berkeley. Marc is a member of the only nationally touring Chicano spoken word group, Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word, which received a creation grant from the National Performance Network to write and produce ?Fear of a Brown Planet,? a spoken word play.
