Speakout - July 12-18, 2006

July 12th, 2006 by Listen & Be Heard · No Comments

Hi Martha

I love your work. I’m glad to have stopped by and then later, much later, come in and read. It was Ellegua, pointing the way.

Thank You for being you, and your efforts being soulful. Your Husband/Man, is the Bomba as well. Funny, and full of keep it real moments. I did laugh that Friday night.

Thank you for all your efforts. The venue is great. You help a lot of people in Vallejo and all over the Bay Area. It’s like when I was a kid. I use to go to Cosmo’s Alley,Hollywood, back in the 1950’s. The poets back then were considered, BEAT, as in, non-conformist. Today they call it Drop Outs, same thing. A little her/history.

Matu

Hey folks,
I hope you’ll share the abundance with youth organizations that have been there for young
people in powerful ways that inspire and benefit all of us. If everyone does a little, it will go a long way to keep them thriving.

peace & blessings,
Aya de Leon

YOUTH SPEAKS NEEDS YOUR HELP:
The following is a letter from Executive Director James Kass:

Dear members of the Youth Speaks community, family, and friends,

It is with great hope that we write you during a critical phase in
the life of Youth Speaks. After 10 years of creating spaces for
young people to thrive, we need to ask for your help as we enter our
11th.

While we’ve maintained continuous growth in our programs and the
number of youth served, we have recently experienced significant
financial setbacks. Some funding promises have been broken (due to
circumstances beyond our control), and we’ve incurred unexpected
moving costs (our building is being sold). As we are a small - but
growing - organization, these costs are tough to absorb. In order to
continue our innovative programming in the new school year, we still
need to raise at least $100,000 in gifts and pledges by August 1.
* Checks should be made payable to Youth Speaks, and can be mailed
to 2169 Folsom Street, S-100 San Francisco, CA 94110. Credit Card
donations can be made directly on our secure website at http://www.youthspeaks.org/indexx.html by following the Donate to Youth Speaks link. Please contact James at 415-902-5637 if you would like
to make a stock or other property donation…

Each summer we try to get the word out to the Solano community about the library’s need for volunteers. Would you please help us by running this short press release?

Oscar-nominated filmmaker screens Beyond the Call in Vallejo. Proceeds go to American Cancer Societys Relay for Life

Benicia, July 6, 2006

Beyond the Call, the latest brilliant effort by Vallejo filmmaker Adrian Belic, will be screened July 25, 2006 at the California Maritime Academys Rizza Auditorium. All the proceeds from the 7:30 pm program will go to the American Cancer Societys Relay for Life. All tickets are $10.

Belic will be on hand at the screening to answer audience questions. Belic, along with his brother, Roko, were nominated in 2000 for their documentary, Genghis Blues. Beyond the Call follows the adventures of three Americans, including two former Viet Nam medics, who travel around the world in mostly war-torn countries serving those in need. Beyond the Call has already played to packed houses at the San Francisco Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, the Mountain Film Festival in Telluride, Co., and the Maui Film Festival.

Tickets for the Vallejo screening are on sale at the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce, 2 Florida Street, online at www.RedDragonflyProductions.com or at the door. For more information, call the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce at (707) 644-5551.
